Sir Joseph Banks Building, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

We were commissioned to explore the possibilities for converting events space within the Sir Joseph Banks Building at Kew into office based accommodation.

We divided up the space in a logical way, placing a mix of work settings where we believe they would ‘best fit’ with the building, it’s current services & architecture.  Where we were forced to interface with the building envelope we tried to do this in a way that did not detract from this iconic buildings architecture.

The faceted & raked design of the reception desk was detailed to reflect shape of the building.  The tree structures through the centre of the workstations was a device for transmitting power & data from the cast coffered ceiling to the work surface as all services were ceiling based.
